A word from Jean Naude

CEO of Groot Constantia Estate, Jean Naudé is excited about the discovery of additional antique wine bottles which have come to light during the last year with the latest being a 300 year old bottle found off the coast of Stockholm. "I am delighted that Groot Constantia again received confirmation that its wine was consumed all over the globe during the 18th Century by the finding of another old Groot Constantia Bottle in Sweden."

The Tasting Room

Mery Uribe PRO at Groot Constantia says “This has been the most incredible season ever; December through to February is always busy but this February has been phenomenal with huge sales and lots of visitors from all over the world!”

There have been close to 300,000 visitors to date. Approximately 74% of visitors are foreign with the balance being made up of national and local visitors.

On the Wine Front

Winemaker Boela Gerber is both charming and knowledgeable. Completely transparent he tells it like it is.

When asked how the harvest was going Boela said that early indications were looking good. The late, hot summer had been worrying, “with the excessive heat sunburn is a reality” heat and water stress could affect the essence of the wines.
Happily it seems from initial pressings that the early ripening period has given excellent ripe and distinctive, well rounded flavours.

Early indications are positive and volume is close to projections 250 tons of grapes have been harvested to date. Boela said “the Chardonnay is looking stellar.”
