The best way to get to Groot Constantia

Cape Town really has it all; beautiful beaches, Table Mountain, fabulous people and the wine lands. My husband and I decided to take our family on a little sightseeing trip of Cape Town and my 3 year old was beside himself with excitement!

Bus Ride At Groot Constantia

We started our tour at the City Sightseeing Ticket Office, Bus Stop 1, outside the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront. We decided to do the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour, as it is a scenic drive with 14 fabulous stops, which include: Kirstenbosch Gardens, Mount Nelson Hotel, and Mariners Wharf, to name a few. We hopped off at Kirstenbosch Gardens to take a look at the now famous Tree Top Canopy Walkway, or Boomslang!

City Sight Seeing Groot Constantia

To access the Purple Wine Bus we had to get off at Stop 21, Constantia Nek. You then step over onto an open-top wine bus for a short 10 minute trip into Constantia Valley and straight to Groot Constantia.

Red Bus Groot Constantia

We arrived at Groot Constantia at lunchtime and took a slow walk along the oak trees towards Simon’s Deli where we got a picnic, which we laid on the grass outside the deli.

The picnic consisted of cold meats, cheese, salads, and the most delicious bread I have ever tasted, washed down with a bottle of Groot Constantia Blanc de Noir 2014 - a delicious strawberry pink blend.

Experiencing the environment

Next, we moved on to some wine tasting! It was extremely informative and incredibly enjoyable. The wine tasting sales assistant guides you through each wine, she describes the environment needed to cultivate the vineyards and how that impacts on the taste of the wine. I definitely learnt a thing or two.

They also offer cellar tours and Chocolate and Wine paring, which we want to do next time! And yes, Groot Constantia is definitely a destination that you can visit time and time again.

After an afternoon of good food, great wine and beautiful scenery, we hopped back onto the Purple Wine Bus to connect back onto the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour. We were grateful that we had this safe designated driver and we settled into our seats with our ear phones to enjoy the rest of the peninsula tour.
