Wine & Food
Groot Constantia Wine Estate produces an award-winning wine to please every palate. Enjoy a fresh and cheerful Rosé or a beautifully complex Chardonnay. Discover a bold Shiraz or our seductive Grand Constance. With three wine-tasting venues on the estate, you can find your favourite in surroundings that suit your style.
A wine is best appreciated accompanied by a meal and chosen to suit the occasion. Pair an elegant Brut Rosé with a gourmet anniversary picnic on our lawns; choose a light and fresh Semillon for an al fresco lunch under our aged oaks; sip an expressive Pinotage during a family feast; or toast a milestone by the fireplace with a dignified glass of Gouverneurs Reserve.

With your back to the iconic Manor House you are looking over the Groot Constantia courtyard, home to the Cloete Cellar. This historical wine cellar was built in the late 1700's by Hendrik Cloete. It is the birthplace of Grand Constance - the iconic sweet wine of Constantia.
The courtyard is a working space welcoming tens of thousands of visitors each year.
The magnificent Cloete Cellar warehouse/wine cellar is a two-storey building with a Greek-mythology inspired pediment gable by sculptor Anton Anreith.
In 1679 Simon van der Stel was appointed by the Dutch East India Company to govern the Cape of Good Hope. After years of loyal service, he requested land from the Company. He periodically sent out riders to collect soil samples. In 1685 he chose 891 morgen (about 763 ha) situated behind Table Mountain for its wine-growing potential and magnificent scenery. Over the years the wines produced on the estate caught the attention of influential people across the globe – clearly due to its impressive quality. Global aristocracy made sure that they had enough stock of this acclaimed and precious product.
Our founder named his farm "Constantia" after the Latin word for constancy or steadfastness. These attributes he valued greatly and today we follow in his footsteps to uphold his enduring legacy of perfection at Groot Constantia.
