Winners were announced on Thursday, 19 November and Groot Constantia, South Africa’s oldest wine producing estate, beat four other nominees in the Heritage category (these being Uitkyk, Mooiplaas, KWV Wine Emporium and Diemersdal Wine Estate) to walk away with the award.

“The Heritage award acknowledges a wine farm that offers the warmest country welcome. One that retains the authenticity of its Cape heritage while investing in a cellar-door experience and goes out of its way to make a visit to the cellar door a special experience – making wine tourists feel they are sharing in the special heritage of the farm and the Winelands,” explains Grant Newton, Sales and Marketing Manager for Groot Constantia.

The public has spoken

The Klink Awards invite local wine lovers and foodies to vote for their favourite wine farms, wines and food from the selected nominees, and instead of having a panel of judges tasting and rating local wines, the consumer votes for their best wines through social media channels.

Hundreds of nominations were received for the Klink Awards 2015 and were vetted down to a list of only 85 participants in 16 categories.

“Groot Constantia received much support from the public and we are extremely grateful for the votes that we received,” says Newton. “It is gratifying to know that we are doing things right and giving the public what they want. We plan to continue, to build on this trend in the future.”

330 years and going strong

Groot Constantia is South Africa’s oldest wine producing farm with an uninterrupted record of wine production since its inception in 1685, boasting a proud heritage of 330 years this year.

“This is an achievement that cannot be claimed by any other wine farm in South Africa – nor in the Southern Hemisphere,” says Jean Naudé, General Manager of Groot Constantia.

330 years of production and the Groot Constantia wines continue to go from strength to strength – having collectively won 94 awards since 2003 – 22 of them in the last year alone.
