Groot Constantia’s place in history received another significant endorsement when we recently got a call from the Governor’s office from the State of Delaware on the east coast of America.
The occasion was to bring Groot Constantia’s attention to the fact that a function was being held at Lewes, to honour people who played a part in the Maritime History of Delaware. To add glamour to the ceremony they wanted representation of their former trading partners to show them proof of the broken glass bottle, found amongst other artifacts from a ship that had sunk of Lewes in 1774.

The ship in question was a British supply ship named the Severn, which sank in Delaware Bay after being hit by a storm. The wreckage was only discovered in 2004, and during the salvaging process the bottle was recovered along with a myriad of other objects.
