A recent Pinotage category tasting by WINE magazine revealed some impressive results, with the 4½ Star Kanonkop 2004 heading the list of gems to have emerged and the Hidden Valley 2004, Groot Constantia 2005, Southern Right 2005 and Simonsig Redhill 2005 among the 4 Star winners.

Wine enthusiasts will have the opportunity to sample 10 of the best wines from among these top scorers at public tastings to be held in Cape Town and Johannesburg next month. Kanonkop’s Johann Krige will talk delegates through the different styles that indicate a resurgence of South Africa’s indigenous red grape varietal.

The tastings, which cost R100 a person, take place at 18h30 at the Mount Nelson Hotel, Gardens, and the Park Hyatt Hotel, Rosebank, on 6 and 14 June respectively.
